What is a Pet Photography session with me like?
A little about me
WHO AM I?
My name is Beth Alexander. I believe that all life is beautiful, and that we need to protect and respect all kinds, not just mankind.
I live in a small country town called Avonmore in my cute little cottage-looking home with my loving husband Jay, my two beautiful children Mason and Trinity and our pack: Jasmine the gentle giant bullmastiff, Ripley the hipper German Shepherd, the kittens Molly and Guinness and last but not least our backyard chickens.
I love spending my summer days off working in my gardens and watching my chickens chase after bugs. In the winter my children and I spend most of our time off tobogganing or wrapped up in blankets on the sofa watching movies.
Every Sunday I volunteer at my local animal shelter where I photograph all of the animals that are up for adoption.
I LOVE being a pet photographer, it's the best of both worlds! I get to meet awesome animal lovers and I get to hangout with their amazing pets. I also get to discover beautiful locations in my area that I didn't even know existed, you really don't have to go far to find beauty!
WHAT CAN I DO FOR YOU?
I can help preserve that indescribable love that you have for your pets by creating beautiful natural looking images that will bring joy to your heart for years to come.
Everybody has their own story, their own unique personalities. It is my goal with every session to create an enjoyable experience and to preserve all that is unique about you and your pet.
HOW DO I DO IT?
I will come to you and your pet to a location of your choice or we can go to one of my favourite locations. Mother nature and all of her beauty will be our studio. No sitting in front of a backdrop with props means you don’t have to worry if your fur baby is not an award winning “best in breed” ;) and it leads to beautiful, natural real looking images.
WHAT TO DO NOW?
If you love your animals as much as I love mine then we are going to get along perfectly. Click the "Ask Me Anything" button below and we can chat about your fur babies and plan your photography session.
As a huge animal lover and animal adoption advocate, I am all about helping lovable shelter pets find homes.
In 2015 I started to work with Ontario SPCA Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Branch, an amazing local shelter, as a volunteer photographer. I believe a great-looking photo is one of the ways these animals attract the attention of potential pet parents, and making sure each one has a terrific photo is always my goal. It isn’t always an easy or simple task – many of the animals are stressed with fear and pent up energy as a result of shelter life, some have been neglected or abused, others have limited social skills. Aesthetics can be challenging, as can lighting. But most often, all the animals need is a little time – time to release some energy, time to soak up some sun or stretch their legs, or time to get comfortable with me.
The rewards are immeasurable, the pets get the attention and exposure they need, and an improved chance of finding a forever home. If you are interested in adopting or volunteering your time to help out, you can contact the Ontario SPCA by clicking this link.
If you are looking for a furry best friend, please consider adoption for your next pet. There are SO many great animals just waiting for a forever home.
Good Karma Colouring Book
Charity means giving something to those in need without expectation or wanting something back but in this case you get good karma points and an awesome colouring book.
100% of the proceeds from this book go to the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Ontario SPCA).
Through its province-wide network of close to 50 Communities, the Ontario SPCA is one of the largest, most responsive animal welfare organizations in the Canada, providing care and shelter for tens of thousands of animals every year.
The animals featured in this book were all photographed by Beth Photography while they were waiting to be adopted.
Helping shelter animals has never been so easy and relaxing!
Recent Pet Photography Sessions
Do you work with animals that are…challenging?
Every pet has their own personality traits. I work with animals of varying levels of obedience and personalities. If you have any concerns when it comes to setting up a photo session with your family pet, please let me know so we can discuss how to tailor the session to suit your pet’s needs.
I have a black dog – can you take good pictures of him?
Ramsay’s owner was worried that his black fur would be too difficult to photograph.
As an owner of a black dog, I’m very aware of how difficult it can be to get good pictures of black dogs (same also applies to white dogs, but to a lesser extent). Along the way I have had a huge amount of practice photographing black dogs. I can even make them look amazing in black and white images.
Can I be in the pictures?
Absolutely, I hope that you would want to be included in the portraits.
Eliza really wanted images of herself with her mother and all of their beautiful animals.
I can help preserve that indescribable love that you have for your pets by creating beautiful, natural looking images that will bring joy to your heart for years to come.
Do you do in-home sessions?
Cats or pets with mobility problems are perfect examples of when it is best to do the session in their own home where they are most comfortable.
Davy’s owners wanted beautiful images of their 18 year old fur baby before he left them.
I will come to a location of your choice to photograph you and your pet. No sitting in front of a backdrop with props, leads to beautiful, natural looking images.
We have to keep our dog on a leash - Is that going to be a problem?
Not at all. We can create beautiful images even with leashes and harnesses kept on.
Emma’s owners were not comfortable with her recalling skills. This is very common. They did not need to be worried.
The truth is that almost every dog I photograph is on a leash for safety reasons and in some cases I am able to remove the leash with some image-editing magic.
